Regulatory Breach

HandS is proud to be recognised by St. Paul’s Chambers and Shepherds Solicitors and looks forward to assisting Jeremy Barnett, Barrister at Law, and Victoria Molloy of Shepherds, in the promotion of ‘Regulatory Breach’, an on-line newsletter of articles, new law and recent cases, all concentrating on their four core areas, Health and Safety, Trading Standards, Discipline and Environmental. This page is in construction, but it contains links to six H&S articles that have already appeared in ‘Regulatory Breach’, dealing with smoking at work, working at heights, the Noise at Work Regulations and others.  Regulatory Breach

Exposing the H&S Myths

Health and safety has been getting a lot of bad press recently. We hear about ladders being banned, firemen’s poles in fire stations being outlawed, games of “conkers” at school being outlawed. We hear about firms being put out of business because of health and safety regulations. Most of these stories are simply NOT true, and others are the result of misinterpretation.

A page has been added to HandS, “Health and Safety Myths: The Truth Behind the Wacky Headlines”, listing 10 of the major falsehoods perpetuated by the media that have been examined and exposed by the TUC, along with a selection of other half-truths, misconceptions and misunderstandings.  Myths of this sort undermine the importance of health and safety provisions that make workplaces healthier and safer. They also undermine the work done by safety reps and health and safety professionals. At HandS, click on Myths

PowerPoints on HandS

‘Sorry about that! You’ll have seen that the PowerPoints section at HandS has been off-line for a few days. That’s while I’ve been uploading files to a new file-server and and making a number of additions to the Presentations available.

Look for a new page to be up shortly, with a much broader range of health and safety presentations. In the meantime, can I suggest that you pay a visit to HSfB (Health and Safety for Beginners) who have an excellent PowerPoint collection on their Downloads page, particularly for those working on Nebosh.

I’ve completed three Presentations myself that are available for download now:

Hydraulics Safety Awareness  (577kb)

RIDDOR  (438kb)

Safety with Metalworking Fluids (444kb)
